KRAV MAGA FAQs

KravMaga

Am I too old for Krav Maga?

That is unlikely! We have had people as old as 75 attend our classes and have a great time. Our median age is estimated at 35 years old.

Do I have to start in Level 1 if I’m already skilled in martial arts?

All members who are new to Krav Maga will start out in our Level 1 classes, regardless of previous experience. Krav Maga is a self-defense and fighting system; it is not a sport or a martial art. As a result, the Krav Maga training system is inherently different from traditional and sport martial arts. Members who have previous martial arts experience may advance more quickly than other members. We guarantee that you will find our Level 1 classes challenging and fun!. Plus, it never hurts to drill on the basics of self-defense regardless of your level of expertise.

Do you have a kids program?

Not currently. You must be at least 15 years old to train at DID Krav Maga. If you are 15-17 years old, you will have to have a parent sign your waiver and contract, and your parent will have to stay with you in class during the training. Parents may NOT drop their kids off for training and leave the facility.

Is Krav Maga too intense for “regular people”?

Absolutely not. Krav Maga was developed to teach people of all abilities, ages and athleticism how to effectively defend themselves against attackers. While Krav Maga is a no-nonsense self-defense system, the classes are conducted in a way that is safe, fun and effective.

Is this a UFC or MMA gym with a bunch of young guys trying to hurt each other?

Absolutely not! We do not tolerate ego driven bullies in our program. There are plenty of places out there that target that market, and we do not. Our target market is the working professional and parents that want to be fit and have confidence in their ability to protect themselves, their loved ones and their community.

What if I’m not in great shape or haven’t worked out/trained in a long time?

No problem, we can help you get in great shape and learn how to protect yourself and those that you love. Our instructors will push you hard in class, but members can go at their own pace, and instructors will provide modifications to exercises so that everyone can participate at their own fitness level. Our classes can be modified for all fitness levels. You do not need to get in shape before coming to our classes; just show up, and we’ll get you to where you want to be.

What should I expect on my first class?

We teach in a safe and welcoming environment. Expect to get a great cardio workout in with a nice warmup of bodyweight exercises, calisthenics and Tabata drills. From there, we will work on teaching 2-3 combative techniques such as punches, kicks, elbows, etc., mix in some high intensity drills and then finish it off with a self-defense technique such as how to escape from a headlock or a choke. In your first class, you will NOT be sparring, fighting or purposefully punching/striking anyone or being punched/struck. In short, you’ll have a great time, sweat a ton, meet new people and you’ll leave feeling like you actually learned something while getting a great workout!

What should I wear to a Krav Maga class?

First Class / Trial Classes:

– Gym shoes that you do not wear outside
– Typical gym attire (workout shorts/pants and a tee shirt)

Members:

– Groin protection (mandatory for men; recommended for women)
– Mouth guard
